In an imperfect world, when crime and dishonor ruled the streets, came the production of mechanical vehicles known as MECHA's. MECHA's are widely produced for various organizations. Depending on the type of Mecha, they are divided into three separate categories;
Battle Suits, Giant Robots, and Vehicles/Hybrids
They may be available for individual purchase. Purchase of new military MECHAs is restricted, but it may be possible to buy one on the Black Market. Most civilian MECHAs are for sale. Characters in the RETRO TECH universe belong to rival underground agencies, noble houses, Megacorps, terrorist factions or mob-groups. Warfare has not broken out, either due to a balance of power or the efforts of peacekeepers [like the police or the U.N.], but because of the threats made by various factions, small battles or skirmishes have occurred. But intrigue, betrayal, secret projects, such as building more powerful vehicles or hi-tech data and weaponry, raids by the police (often to foil underground projects), and other covert operations are ongoing. MECHA's also face political interference from civilians and government organizations.
The police and military are big users of MECHA's on various terrains whether it be for assassination attempts or high security. There is a thriving Black Market for stolen or scavenged MECHA parts, some of which may find their way into other hybrid MECHA's.
Androids can also play a major role in any cybernetic society as exotic toys for the wealthy, unhumanly lethal bodyguards and enforcers, or as an oppressed class struggling for freedom. All sides in this world have politicians or arms manufacturers who use conflict to further their own ambitions and wealth.
